Growers from around Alberta, and even a few from Saskatchewan gathered in a field north of Blackie, AB, to find out how they can Get More Bushels.
The Get More Bushels Super Crop Plot tour showcases leading canola varieties, new canola varieties, and the latest crop technology in the market. With participants from Bayer Crop Science, Brett Young, DynAgra VRT, Dow, Dupont, and Simplot there were many varieties and technologies to look at and lots to take in.

Following the tour, guests enjoyed a steak and lobster feast right there in the field. Both bellies and minds were full.

DynAgra also introduced their newest service! Coming this fall to select growers is Know Risk Farm Management. A program designed to increase margins and make the most of your crops.
All in all it was a beautiful day full of fun and excitement, showing growers different strategies to Get More Bushels! Thank you to all those who attended!
Results of the Get More Bushels Super Crop Plot will be presented at meetings held the first week of November and puclished on www.getmorebushels.com. To sign up for the November grower meetings please contact Justine at 403-934-4644.

Another great weekend of parades and fun with the DynAgra crew out and about! Acme celebrated their centennial and in the parade a caravan of DynAgra cruiser bikes, a four-wheeler pulling a mini-float, and hot rods, all sporting DynAgra colours was a sight to see.

In Standard, we were Powered by Service as staff “pulled” our truck through the streets and dressed in DynAgra orange we marched through the town.

Also in Carseland, we drove our DynAgra VRT truck with tinsel flowing and served popcorn once again creating excitement in the crowds.

DynAgra’s Get More Bushels Canola Super Crop Plot was seeded on May 17, 2010. It was a beautiful day to be out in the field, and getting things started for the 2010 growing season. The soil moisture and temperature were ideal, all around great seeding conditions!

Seeding of the 2010 Super Crop Plot
The plot was seeded with a 2008 52 foot 5000 Flexi Coil Airdrill with a 350 bu three tank air cart, ten inch shank spacing and four inch seed spread.
It was seeded at a constant speed of 4.5 miles per hour. We seeded 11 varieties of canola at 5 pounds per acre, along with 77 pounds of actual N (Anhydrous Ammonia, NH3) and 140 pounds of 20-20-15-0 (seed blend). Each strip contains 3.15 acres. There were a total of 24 strips seeded; each variety was replicated within the plot. We also included three technologies that can be added to your canola crops to increase your yield potential, they include, DynAgraVRT, Avail phosphorous coating, and PodCeal.
The plot was seeded on wheat stubble, which had a pre seed burn down with one liter per acre of black label Cheminova on May 15, 2010.

Soil Temperature at 2010 Super Crop Plot
DynAgra’s Agronomy team assisted Brent Gillanders in seeding the plot. From calibrating, soil temperature testing, mapping, depth testing and filling the carts. We will be monitoring closely for germination so keep checking www.getmorebushels.com for more updates.

DynAgra is pleased to announce the opening of a chemical warehouse in Brooks. This will allow for Brooks area growers to have an independent choice in their market for agronomy, VRT, custom application, seed, chemical and fertilizer. The loss of Lakeside in the area has given DynAgra the opportunity to cover off the services that the big line companies will not provide growers in Southern Alberta. DynAgra is committed to providing value added services to Western Canadian farmers and we look forward to building new relationships in the Brooks area.
“We are very exciting about our expansion in the brooks area. We feel that growers value a local independent company that is willing to work the hours that are required to get the job done.” Don Roubos, Business Developments Specialist at DynAgra.

A recent article by Lee Hart posted on the AgCanada website explores different methods to enhance nitrogen efficiencies.
Pat Kunz, who farms 2,400 acres near Beiseker, Alberta had this to say about applying nitrogen where it’s needed ”Our main interest… was to insure fields were left with residual nitrogen of 25 to 30 pounds per acre,” says Kunz. “If we had that residual then we could be fairly sure the crop had what it needed. But in soil testing, we found some areas of the field had zero nitrogen and other areas had 200 or 300 pounds. It was ridiculous.”
Working with agronomists at their local DynAgra farm service centre in Beiseker (www.dynagra.com) he set up a VRT system to better match nutrients to the productivity potential of the soil. “If you have a crappy area in a field, it is always going to be crappy,” says Kunz. “That doesn’t mean you can’t look at ways to improve the productivity of some areas over time, but throwing more fertilizer at it doesn’t work.”
Using a combination of tools that include yield maps, soil analysis and satellite imagery known as normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), the DynAgra agronomist can develop a fertilizer prescription for the various zones in each field. With a VRT system on the seed drill, the perscription varies nitrogen rates according to the productivity of the various zones in a field. It applies more in those areas where the soil has most yield potential, and less on the less productive sites.”
